Through an inclusive and transformative approach that places young girls (young female listeners) in the intervention districts at the heart of the action, the Jeunes en vigie* project aims to strengthen access for adolescents and young women to high-quality, integrated health services tailored to their specific needs and constraints, while respecting their rights.
Preparatory phase of social audits
Before the social audits begin, let's take a look back at the preparatory phase of the activities! First, it should be noted that the social audit, which is the backbone of this project, can be defined as a situational diagnosis that highlights good practices, irregularities, or bad practices in the public and private sectors. This audit will be carried out by the young female auditors themselves. The preparatory phase of the social audits began with two training sessions for the 90 auditors from the six districts involved, covering SRHR and the three pandemics, as well as media training. These training sessions strengthened their capacities in various aspects of the project, facilitating the implementation of activities in the field and contributing to their empowerment. In this project, empowerment consists of placing the auditors at the heart of the activities and creating spaces for them to learn, understand, and express themselves individually and collectively.

Adaptation and finalization of social tools
In order to conduct this social audit, the auditors will have three documents at their disposal: an interview guide for young people in the districts, a guide for the focus groups they will lead with young people in the districts, and an interview guide for healthcare providers. With these tools, the auditors will be able to conduct interviews and surveys with users and healthcare providers in order to collect data that will enable them to conduct awareness-raising and advocacy sessions. They will receive capacity building on leadership and the use of social audit tools in the coming month.
Developing the change monitoring system
The project monitoring and evaluation system will be primarily qualitative and based on a change-oriented approach (COA). Held in September and October in Burkina Faso and Senegal, the AOC workshops mainly enabled:
- Support partners in developing this new approach to observing change;
- Develop a change-oriented monitoring and evaluation system consisting of:
- individual and group meetings to take a step back from activities and reflect on the changes made;
- a feedback notebook to allow listeners to express their difficulties, expectations, emotions, and learning experiences;
- a testimonial form to collect feedback from healthcare providers.
* Young people on the lookout is a project implemented in four districts of Burkina Faso (Koudougou, Réo, Koupéla, and Tenkodogo) and two districts of Senegal (Matam and Mbour). The implementing partners in Senegal are the NGOs RAES and Jeunesse et Développement (JED), and in Burkina Faso, the NGOs SOS Jeunesse et Défis and Burcaso. Equipop, the lead organization, provides technical support for the implementation of activities.
