– Human rights: making change happen!

Equipop and the Human Rights for All collective are joining forces to mark International Human Rights Day on December 10, 2021. We are organizing a digital dialogue, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., between representatives of various institutions to facilitate the shift to the use of non-discriminatory language. We will take as a particularly significant example the abandonment of the term "human rights" in favor of the use of "human rights."

Language and social representations are interdependent. Non-discriminatory language facilitates the achievement of equality between people, while discrimination is perpetuated through language.

To move toward equality, it is imperative to implement changes in terminology. As a result, several expressions are gradually disappearing from the French lexicon, such as "bon père de famille" (good father). However, informal practices must be consolidated by institutional practices that will help build egalitarian norms for all.
