– Take part in the “Our Future Feminists” event at the 2024 Future Summit

Equipop is pleased to invite you to participate in the side event "Our Feminist Futures," to be held in New York on September 20, 2024, as part of the Summit of the Future (Summit of the Future). Organized on the first day of the "Action Days," this event will highlight the demands of young people and feminists in West Africa to contribute to the post-2030 global agenda. It is a unique opportunity to share transformative solutions and strengthen the meaningful participation of young people in decision-making processes.

  • When? September 20, 2024 (Event in French without translation)
  • Where? New York

Why is this event essential?

The Summit for the Future, to be held on September 22 and 23, 2024, will bring together world leaders to sign a "Pact for the Future" aimed at addressing global challenges, including social, economic, and gender inequalities. Prior to this, the "Action Days" on September 20 and 21 will be dedicated to mobilizing civil society and, in particular, young people.   "Nos futurs féministes" (Our Feminist Futures) is part of this dynamic and aims to provide a French-speaking space for the voices of young activists from West Africa to be heard. In a context where linguistic justice and diversity of voices in international negotiation spaces are often neglected, this event aims to become a platform for young people to be recognized as true agents of change.

1 event, 3 objectives

This side event will be an opportunity to:

  • Present the position paper co-developed by a delegation of young people and feminists from the sub-region, highlighting their demands for a more just and equal future. This document proposes concrete recommendations for including young people and feminists in decision-making processes related to peace, security, social justice, and sexual and reproductive rights.
  • Share transformative solutions drawn from the experiences of young feminists in the subregion, particularly with regard to combating gender-based violence, inclusive participation, and access to comprehensive sexuality education;
  • Strengthen synergies between international initiatives promoting the rights of young people and women, such as the Generation Equality Forum, the Francophonie Summit, and Beijing+30.

Why participate?

This event is a unique opportunity to take part in a historic moment where young people and feminists can shape a new global agenda for post-2030. It will allow participants to engage with influential leaders, activists, and government representatives. Speakers will include: Brian Sossou, Founder of Filles en Actions (Benin); Chantal Naré, Blogger and women's rights advocate (Burkina Faso); Nafissatou Hassane Alfari, Co-founder of the Niger Women's Rights League (Niger); Ndèye Fatou Tounkara, President of Senegal Action Féministe (Senegal); and Foteini Papagioti, Senior Policy Advisor (International Center for Research on Women). Other high-level guests, such as representatives from the French government, Benin, and the UN, will also contribute to the discussions.
