In 2021, as France hosted the Generation Equality Forum (GEF), Equipop launched a strong advocacy campaign in France, both to influence the overall organization of the GEF, since the French government had a decision-making role, and to influence French public policy.
To this end, Equipop has been active in various forums, the main one being the Collectif Générations Féministes (Feminist Generations Collective), which brings together around 50 organizations. Along with four other associations, Equipop was part of the collective's secretariat, which carried out ongoing actions, requiring a high degree of adaptability to the changing context. There were numerous exchanges with the authorities, both at the technical and ministerial levels. The messages of the campaign that structured 2021, #StopTalkingStartFunding, focusing on funding to end gender-based violence, were addressed at the highest level during a meeting with Emmanuel Macron on the opening day of the FGE.
For a feminist foreign policy
These initiatives related to the FGE were carried out in line with our broader advocacy for the implementation of a truly feminist foreign policy. This year, Equipop contributed to the work of the High Council for Gender Equality, notably to the report "Feminist diplomacy: From a rallying slogan to a real dynamic for change?", submitted to two ministers, as well as to the preparation of the French Presidency of the European Union in 2022.
"Dedicate at least 0.1% of each state's GDP to combating gender-based and sexual violence; guarantee and facilitate access to justice for victims."
As leader of Coordination SUD's gender commission, Equipop contributed to a key dialogue with French development policy operators to change practices towards better and more concrete integration of the gender approach in programs. In particular, Equipop contributed its expertise to the creation of the Support Fund for Feminist Organizations, managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the AFD, whose existence was largely due to advocacy by associations the previous year. These actions were coordinated with the monitoring of lengthy parliamentary proceedings on the draft law on solidarity-based development and the fight against global inequalities (LOP-DSLIM), which led to the inclusion of feminist diplomacy in Article 1 and the commitment to have 75% of projects with gender as a significant objective and 20% with gender as the main objective.
