– G7: Women 7 feminist associations proudly display their demands

The final stretch before the G7 Summit, which will open on August 24 in Biarritz.  France has announced its intention to make this G7 summit a forum for combating inequality, with a strong focus on gender inequality. But for the feminist associations of Women 7, with just 16 days to go, this is not enough: heads of state must make more ambitious political and financial commitments to women's rights. In order to challenge decision-makers ahead of this strategic meeting, the W7 is launching a major poster campaign in Paris and Biarritz to demand a truly feminist G7.

Two weeks before the G7 Summit, Women 7 calls on the French government and G7 leaders on more than 260 billboards in Paris and Biarritz: "A G7 that makes a difference is a feminist G7!"

While announcements have been made in recent months regarding women's rights, W7 believes that they are not ambitious enough to "make a difference" and effectively address the root causes of gender inequality. There is still time to change the situation, provided that the right levers are activated and the necessary financial resources are made available.

The campaign began on Wednesday in Paris with more than 150 billboards scattered throughout the city and will continue in Biarritz on August 14 with 110 billboards.

A G7 that really makes a difference is a feminist G7!

For Women 7, two actions are essential to ensure that this G7 is truly feminist and can advance the rights of women and girls around the world:

  1. The first measure is one that depends solely on the political will of G7 leaders: to include women and girls, including feminist activists, in the discussions and decision-making of this G7 summit. In two weeks' time, six men and one woman will make decisions that will have an impact on women and girls around the world. What if the G7 leaders listened to the demands of those most affected, who represent half of humanity?
  2. The second action for a feminist G7 is to make concrete and substantial financial commitments to gender equality. Women 7 calls on G7 countries to fund ambitious public policies that integrate gender and to increase funding for feminist organizations around the world. The initiatives led by France and the G7 countries on gender equality can only be realized and have a real impact if they are adequately funded.

For months, feminists have been mobilizing in G7 countries and beyond to push governments to commit to women's rights: will their voices be heard by leaders at the Biarritz summit?

With this poster campaign, Women 7 is calling on all citizens to join forces with them in asking G7 leaders to stand up for the rights of women and girls with the hashtag #FeministsCount and by sharing their recommendations for a transformative G7. It is high time that inequality came to an end, and this G7 can help make that happen!

The W7 (Women 7) movement brings together feminist organizations from G7 countries and around the world. Its main mission is to ensure that G7 countries make both financial and political commitments in 2019 and beyond that will have a concrete and lasting impact on the lives of women and girls around the world.
