– Equipop reaffirms its commitment to the European END FGM network

From May 29 to 31, 2017, Equilibres et Populations participated in the European END FGM network seminar on the theme of "Building Bridges." Network members took advantage of this meeting to reaffirm the importance of collaborative work, which is conducive to the success of projects related to female genital mutilation (FGM). Equipop then participated in the network's General Assembly, during which we were re-elected as a member of the board.

The seminar provided an opportunity for Equipop and its partners, AIDOS and GAMS Belgium, to present their joint project "Buildingbridges between Africa and Europe to tackle FGM." The presenters highlighted the tools developed as part of this project. Aurélie Hamelin-Desrumaux, project manager for Equipop, gave a preview of the web documentary "Kayes says no." This is a report on the ceremony to abandon FGM in 138 villages in the Kayes region of Mali, which was organized on December 3, 2016. The seminar thus helped to promote the creation of bridges between those involved in the projects — members of the diaspora and the populations of their countries of origin — in order to encourage the sustainable abandonment of female genital mutilation.

Equipop re-elected to the board of the European network END FGM

The day after the seminar, during the network's General Assembly, Equipop submitted its candidacy for re-election to the board. Aurélie Hamelin-Desrumaux thus reaffirmed the interest and commitment ofEquipop which, in her words, " actively contributed to the development of the END FGM network [...] and wishes to maintain its presence within a European-wide platform, which is a solid means of promoting the long-term abandonment of female genital mutilation on an international scale.". This commitment enabled Aurélie Hamelin-Desrumaux to be re-elected for a two-year term on the network's board.

Over the next two years, Equipop will, in addition to its current projects, participate in the expansion and strengthening of the network's strategies.
