– Discovering the Feminist Ecosystem of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region

One of the first steps of the project is to take stock of the regional feminist ecosystem and facilitate synergies between actors engaged in the fight for gender equality. launched in April 2023 by Equipop and Filactions. Why take this approach, and what are the initial results? Read the article!

At the crossroads of gender equality and international solidarity, the project Feminist Generations: Lyon and its metropolitan area, a territory of equality aims to raise awareness, encourage young people to get involved, and mobilize local actors working to promote equality and combat gender-based and sexual violence. Equipop is mapping all the feminist actors in the region, with the support of the Filactions association's territorial expertise.

The approach: understanding regional realities and expertise

Mapping provides an overview that is as close as possible to regional realities. It involves getting to know and meeting the actors present in the territory in order to better understand their actions, their fields of intervention, and the challenges they face. While they all share a commitment to gender equality, there is a wide range of actors: associations, student movements, private, institutional, and academic actors.  Once identified, a dialogue is established with these structures to discuss the project, consider synergies for action, and capitalize on our knowledge, practices, and expertise together.

A rich, complementary, and international feminist ecosystem

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is home to a rich, diverse, and complementary feminist movement. To date, more than 200 actors have been identified. Although the network of associations is uneven—with much of the momentum concentrated in the Lyon metropolitan area—Equipop has identified initiatives in smaller towns and remote rural areas.    This complementarity is also reflected in the actions carried out by the actors, who fight against systemic inequalities and for gender equality in all areas and at all levels. Whether it be awareness-raising and training for various audiences, support for victims of sexist and domestic violence, cultural activities, or venues such as cafés and bookstores, each actor is involved in different ways and deals with a multitude of issues.    Current events show that feminism and gender equality are fundamentally international issues. The AURA region is sensitive to these issues: several actors are involved in international activities or do not hesitate to organize events, take a stand, and raise awareness about the fight against gender inequality around the world.

As the mapping process is still ongoing, if you are involved in promoting equality and are interested in this project, please do not hesitate to contact us! We would be delighted to hear from you.
