International Women's Rights Day

Delivering on commitments made to women and girls when adopting the Sustainable Development Goals

In one week, the 60th Conference on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place in New York.  Equilibres & Populations is taking the opportunity of March 8, International Women's Day, to encourage states, including France, to take note of and support during the conference the commitments made when the Sustainable Development Goals were adopted.

March 8, 2016 is a special day, as it is the first International Women's Day since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Indeed, gender equality is one of the 17 goals adopted by member states in September 2015. Specific and cross-cutting, this goal of equality will be the focus of this Commission, in which Equilibres & Populations will participate from March 14 to 24.

“This 15-year cycle of SDG implementation is an opportunity for states to commit to the path of equality now,” reminds us Aurélie Gal-Régniez, Executive Director of Equilibres & Populations.

The theme of the 60th CSW, "Women's empowerment and the link to sustainable development," provides an opportunity for Equilibres & Populations to remind the United Nations of the importance of implementing concrete programs in favor of sexual and reproductive rights.  Populations to remind the United Nations of the importance of implementing concrete programs in favor of sexual and reproductive rights, targeting mainly adolescent girls.

This is an essential element in "leave no one behind" in the collective quest represented by the SDGs to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030.
