– Death of UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin – Message from Equipop

On June 4, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin passed away suddenly at the age of 68, in the middle of his second term as Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA. Equipop, which has worked in partnership with UNFPA since its inception more than 20 years ago, extends its deepest condolences to his family and colleagues.

Equipop President Alain Marié joins all organizations working to promote women's and young people's health in paying tribute to Dr. Osotimehin: "This is sad news and, beyond that, a great loss for the community of actors and actresses who defend our values around the world. Dr. Osotimehin's leadership has been a source of inspiration for many organizations and individuals. We will redouble our efforts to ensure that his vision of a more just world, especially for women and young people, becomes a reality."

On June 4, 2017, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, aged 68, passed away suddenly halfway through his second term as Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA. Equipop, which has been working in cooperation with UNFPA since its creation more than 20 years ago, offers its most sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.

Equipop’s President Alain Marié joins the other organizations acting for youth and women’s health to pay tribute to Dr. Osotimehin: “We are saddened by this news and beyond that, by a great loss for the community of advocates who promote our values. Dr. Osotimehin’s leadership was an inspiration for a great number of organizations and individuals. We will ensure that our efforts are doubled in order to make his world view, in priority for women and young people, become a reality."
