– Against the far right #AlertesFéministes on Sunday, June 23

The signatories of the #AlertesFéministes coalition—including Equipop—call on everyone to take action against the dangers of the far right. To preserve democracy, which is already under severe strain, and to protect our hard-won rights and social gains, for the dignity of all, we will sound feminist alarms throughout France on June 23 to call for a united front against the far right on June 30 and July 7 and to vote en masse for a future that allows for the emancipation and freedom of all.

The appeal can be found on the website alertesfeministes.org.

Following the irresponsible dissolution of the National Assembly, the possibility of the far right coming to power is now very real. We know that its primary obsession is to destroy the rights and freedoms of a huge section of the population: women, people of color, people with disabilities, trans and LGBTQIA+ people, migrants, girls, and children. We also know that it will attack the entire social movement head-on. We know that the far right in power would spell the end of a certain conception of democracy, the rule of law, and many freedoms, which have already been severely curtailed in recent years.

On June 23, we will sound the feminist alarm bells.

Because we know that our rights are never guaranteed forever. The right to vote, the right to freely express one's sexuality, the right to contraception and abortion, the right to work, children's rights, the right to education for all, the right to gender transition, the right to be protected from violence and discrimination, the right to be recognized as a victim of rape and other gender-based and sexual violence, the right to a bank account, the right to equal pay for work of equal value, at least in law, even if this is still far from being a reality... gender parity: we owe these advances to the struggles of our elders, our mothers, our grandmothers, and their allies.   In many parts of the world, these fundamental rights have been attacked and sometimes suppressed by far-right governments, such as the National Rally, in favor of deadly political projects. In Italy, Giorgia Meloni's far right has attacked the RSA, the right to abortion, and the right to assisted reproduction for lesbian couples. In Spain, the far right Vox party denies the very existence of violence against women and gender minorities. Since 2020, abortion has been banned in Poland, even in cases of fetal malformation. In France, the National Rally has already planned to cut funding for family planning services. These far-right ideas have even inspired several harmful reforms in France in recent years, with particularly serious consequences for women and all minorities (immigration law, pension reform, unemployment insurance, etc.). These freedom-destroying and anti-social reforms have paved the way for the far right, accentuating the despair and suffering of an entire population.   It is therefore essential that everyone mobilize all those around them who are likely to go to the polls on June 30 and July 7, and to join in mobilization events, such as the union demonstrations that will take place this Saturday, June 15, or the Pride marches throughout the month of June.   We also call on politicians not to nominate men who have been accused or convicted of sexist and sexual violence. #MeTooPolitique, it's time to take action! Support the victims who have had the courage to speak out or file complaints, often against powerful politicians.
