– Call for young people to mobilize against the far right on June 30 and July 7, 2024

The members of Team Hope, a group of young feminist volunteers from Equipop in Paris, are taking action. From June 28 to 30, Team Hope will be running an awareness-raising stand on gender equality at the Solidays festival. Here is the text they are distributing at the stand, calling on young people to get out and vote against the far right in the upcoming legislative elections.

Following the breakthrough of the far right in the last European elections in 2024, President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the National Assembly, paving the way for the far right to enter government. This risk highlights the urgent need to unite the struggles for a feminist, anti-racist, and environmentalist society. We, young feminists who are members of "Team Hope", we call on young French people to go to the polls on June 30 and July 7, 2024, and to vote urgently against the far right.   These legislative elections will define the political and social climate, as well as public policy, for the next three years. As young people, this vote is particularly important to us: our future is at stake at the ballot box. It is an opportunity for us to choose the representatives who will represent us, draft and vote on laws that impact our daily lives:

  • against youth poverty in France and racism
  • for the future of our planet and the rights of women and LGBTQIA+ people.
60% of 18-24 year olds and 65% of 25-34 year olds did not vote in the last European elections (IPSOSLet's not remain the generation that votes the least: let's mobilize! We, the youth of France, have the power to defeat the far right in the upcoming elections by flooding the ballot boxes with our votes. Everywhere in France, whether you come from the suburbs, the countryside, overseas territories, cities, or villages, we call on you to vote against the far right. Let's reaffirm our vision of a feminist, anti-racist society that supports human rights at the ballot box.   Regardless of the country, when the far right advances, gender equality and social justice retreat. In Italy, The far right in power is attacking media independence and threatening access to abortion in family planning centers. In Argentina, populist President Javier Milei is attacking the only institution that guarantees gender equality, notably by abolishing the Ministry of Equality, and the fundamental advances for women's and LGBTQIA+ rights recently achieved by civil society. In France, too, the far right is no friend to young people and gender minorities.re. While French people under the age of 30 are the most affected by poverty and precariousness, the far right votes against legislation that includes social measures such as increasing the minimum wage. In the European Parliament, it abstains or votes against European legislation that improves access to abortion, supports equal pay, combats sexual violence, or strengthens women's access to senior positions.   Faced with this situation, French youth must take urgent action. We cannot stay at home; our voices matter and we must make them heard. Let us mobilize now, across all generations, in the streets and at the polls on June 30 and July 7. In Poland, in 2023, it was women and young people who removed the far right from power after eight years of sexist, anti-rights, and anti-democratic policies. In France, young people too, let's resist and we will win!
