– Second ECHO training course, a winning bet for Equipop: Khoolesmen and ACD Naangue are on a path of continuous improvement.

It was with mutual pleasure that Équilibres & Populations and representativesfromACD/Naangueand Khoolesmenmet in Ouagadougou from November 22 to 25, 2016, for the second part of the multidisciplinary training program that began last June. On the agenda: implementation of priority improvement projects, strengthening of administrative and financial tools, drafting of a concept note, and a meeting with a donor. In short, practical, concrete, and tangible action!

A second training course to meet the demands of associations

After the first training session, which took place from June 13 to 18, 2016, as part of a Medicos del Mundo project to combat malnutrition, Equipop continued to provide remote support as needed (assistance with finalizing the organizational diagnosis, mapping technical and financial partners, etc.). The November training session therefore aimed to continue this personalized support by responding to specific requests from Khoolesmen and ACD/Naangue, which work respectively in the field of malnutrition in relation to family planning and female genital mutilation, and in the field of blood donation.

The three Equipop support officers, Julie van der Smissen (administrative and financial management), Caroline Traoré (organizational development), and Claire Veyriras (resource mobilization), therefore deepened their training in line with the needs expressed.

  • As part of the quality assurance and self-assessment process, Caroline helped the two associations identify three priority improvement projects and draft at least one of these projects so that they could be implemented as soon as they returned to Dori.
  • To help improve administrative and financial procedures, Julie started with the accounting, financial, and human resources management tools already in place at the partners' organizations and worked with them to improve these tools in order to meet the requirements of the technical and financial partners.
  • Finally, Claire helped draft concept notes based on projects already developed by the associations and guided them in their preparations for interviews with technical and financial partners: AIDOSfor Khoolesmen and LuxDevfor ACD Naangue.

Tangible results...

Thanks to this "à la carte" approach, each organization leaves the training with concrete results in each area: ready-to-use administrative and financial management tools, priority improvement projects to be implemented, a presentation document about the association to share with partners, and concrete ideas for collaboration with a technical and financial partner.

[blockquote text="The training was practical because it focused on what we really need. We felt like we were really solving our problems. `{`…`}` We have everything we need to get on the road to improvement." …to keep improving!

This initial support convinced both associations of the importance of improvement initiatives for the development of their organizations. They therefore wish to continue their collaboration in the Dori region (Sahel), whether to combat malnutrition or on other future projects.

[blockquote text="I'm leaving this training feeling stronger. I've learned a lot, even in areas I don't work in. If I've learned something, then the whole organization becomes stronger." Herman Kalmogo, Khoolesmen] border_color="#f7461c" text_color="#b3ada9"]

This second training session did not mark the end of the ECHO project, but rather the beginning of a wonderful dynamic of exchange and collaboration between all stakeholders!
