Women's rights
and minority rights
are under attack
ALL OVER THE WORLD.
Here too.
The fundamental rights of women and minorities are being eroded. Sometimes slowly, sometimes abruptly. All over the world, and here as well.
The work of nonprofit organizations, both in France and internationally, is facing increasingly significant obstacles. Some have already had to cease their activities and close their doors. The majority could disappear within a few years.
These setbacks are the result of attacks organized by anti-rights movements. This phenomenon, known as the “backlash,” is a global one.
It shapes public discourse and the collective imagination.

In the face of these attacks, there is a solution: international solidarity.
Rights must be defended collectively, across borders. Supporting those who take action, amplifying their voices, connecting struggles, and pooling resources means defending the rights of women and minorities—and, more broadly, democracy.
Every person’s action counts.
I'M SIGNING THE PETITION
Many organizations and citizens are taking action at their own level. Let’s call on French policymakers to take a clear stand!
Members of Congress, local elected officials, and future candidates for the presidential and congressional elections: make the defense of our rights and support for international solidarity a priority.
Learn about the attacks by anti-rights groups in your area, help raise public awareness by speaking out, and advocate for budgets that are commensurate with these challenges!
Equipop will formally submit this petition to a large number of members of Congress and local elected officials in the fall of 2026, and then to the candidates in the presidential and congressional elections in early 2027.
COMMITTED TO RIGHTS,
everywhere.
For more than 30 years, Equipop has been active within feminist networks in France, West Africa, and around the world, working to defend the rights of women and minorities.
With a presence in France and internationally, particularly in West Africa, the organization supports grassroots activists, strengthens local initiatives, and advocates for rights and equality.
Its work is based on a simple belief: rights must be defended together, at every level.
The rights at issue
Sexual and reproductive rights
Talking about “sexual and reproductive rights” may seem abstract, but these rights refer to very concrete realities: access to abortion, of course, but also to contraception and comprehensive sex education, among other things. When these rights are challenged, a logic of bodily control takes hold, and what initially affects women and certain minorities ultimately undermines all fundamental freedoms.
Right to safety
Whether on the street, at work, at home, or in times of war, gender-based and sexual violence constitute a fundamental threat to security. Yet traditional conceptions of security take little or no account of them. Public institutions devote very few resources to this issue, and those allocated by organizations are negligible. Victim protection and prevention efforts are woefully inadequate, and women and minorities pay the price.
Rights and freedoms of association
All over the world, organizations—particularly feminist ones—are being hindered, monitored, and threatened. In France, too, civic space is shrinking and funding is declining dramatically. This trend is all the more alarming because attacks on civil society organizations affect far more than just the activist community. When citizens are prevented from organizing or acting collectively, it is democracy itself that is undermined.
Justice and the Rule of Law
Attacks on the rights of women and minorities are part of a broader movement to undermine judicial institutions and the rule of law. This can take the form of intimidation and challenges to the independence of the judiciary. However, when the rule of law is eroded and checks and balances are weakened, the entire democratic framework crumbles.
Right to reliable and inclusive information
Women and minorities have always had very limited representation in the media. On top of that, the right to reliable information is currently under threat: media consolidation in the hands of a few individuals, attacks on journalists, and in some cases even censorship. When access to diverse information is restricted, the very foundations of democracy are shaken.
